JLytics was founded based upon a simple idea: CEOs, CFOs and business owners should be able to access critical management data they need without having to bend over backwards to get it.

We are team of data engineers, data analysts and business experts who have put together a one-stop solution for busy CEOs, CFOs and small business owners who run companies in the $5MM to $100MM revenue range. We work with startups and established businesses alike.

THE BIG  IDEA

When it comes to having the tools and information necessary to make effective decisions, here are three insights I have found that hold true for most successful CEOs and business owners:

  1. They see the big picture clearly when it comes to running their company. They understand how the pieces fit together. But they lack sufficient knowledge about key details (i.e., data) about the operations, status and trajectory of each respective business unit or department. So, they rely on their VPs, department heads and other lieutenants to give them the right information at the right time in order to make good decisions.
  2. Their lieutenants, in turn, often do not consistently prepare and send the needed reports to the them. This is due to several possible causes, including: the lieutenants do not know how to set proper key performance indicators (KPIs), they do not know how to acquire the necessary data, or they lack motivation to build informative reports.
  3. They also lack the ability to acquire and/or interpret the data they receive directly. This is due to several possible reasons, including: they lack a dedicated business intelligence (BI) or database team, they do not know how to specify exactly which data they want or how it should be formatted, or they do not know enough about how to read and interpret the data in a way that would inform good decision-making.

ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

Jed Jones founded JLytics in 2023 because he saw a need in the marketplace to help CEOs and business owners get themselves in a position to make data-driven decisions.

Our Mission

We aim to serve as the secret weapon of CEOs when they are seeking a data-backed argument for making decisions that matter to their organizations.

Experience

Through his various businesses, Jed has supported hundreds of business clients for over 25 years, functionally as a marketer and a data scientist. He has worked for, in and around small businesses, Fortune 100 companies, and as a founder and owner of two advertising agencies.

Jed has been fortunate enough to directly support the success of dozens of business owners and CEOs who have faced countless tough decisions. Time and again, he has brought his data science, business and strategy skills to bear on their toughest pricing problems.

Team Skill Sets

JLytics is not just one person: we are comprised of a team of individuals who understand the importance of getting the right data to the right person at the right time.

Individually and collectively, the JLytics team brings to bear a wealth of hard-won skill sets, including across these domains:

  • Statistical Understanding: The cornerstone of data science is statistical understanding. Knowing the basics like means, standard deviations and t-tests is important, of course. But equally important is having a statistical feel for approaching and working with data: sampling, statistical significance, correlation testing, t-tests and more. Being able to answer the question: Do you have enough data to work with here? What can this sample tell me about the problem I am trying to solve?
  • Coding: Coding in languages like Python allows the data scientist to extend raw data with additional capabilities so that the data is more comprehensive, more predictive and more useful. Data cleansing, aggregation, appending, machine learning, analysis, visualization, and reporting are enhanced by these tools. And proficiency in tools like Excel, Google Sheets, and Tableau rounds out the practical side of any coding and database skillset.
  • Business Understanding: Doing effective data science in the context of business requires an understanding of how business works. This goes far beyond what a person can learn in business school or from bestselling business books. Rather, it consists of all of the intangibles in business that one learns through experience: how to make requests, how to show respect to others, how to meet your objectives when you are met with resistance, how to discern the motivations and needs of others, and so much more.
  • Communication: One of the most precious skills to find in a data scientist is the ability to communicate effectively. There is no room in business for overuse of technical jargon when simple language will suffice, talking above (or below) another person, or failing to listen to others’ needs. Respect, deep listening, and clear signalling of needs and goals are cornerstones of strong business communication that any data scientist you work with should possess.
