The year was 2006. Jed, our founder, was working for Dell Computer in Kawasaki, Japan, in charge of selling online servers and switches to the Japanese market.

On one particularly uneventful Wednesday afternoon, when Jed received an unexpected call from the company CEO. “Jed, how many units of Precision 3660 servers did we sell online in Q3 of last year?” This was a highly unusual call to receive, especially from the CEO. Fortunately, Jed had just been reviewing this report and had the answer at top of mind, which he quickly gave.

“Thanks, Jed.” And just like that, the call was over.

That moment helped Jed realized that any individual at any level of the organization needs access to the same data, when they need it. Even the CEO doesn’t have a crystal ball or magic robot there to provide data in question and answer style.

They don’t want to have to call the BI team, or submit an official request to their reporting team. They just want the data and they want it now.

Since that time, Jed and his team have personally served the marketing and data needs of over 200 CEOs, CFOs and business owners. He has seen first handhand how even the smartest, most successful business leaders often lack the data they need at their fingertips to make good decisions.
